What is Naturopathic Nutrition?
Naturopathic medicine is a system that uses natural remedies which include food, supplements and lifestyle to help the body heal itself. It encourages the body to heal itself by creating the right environment to heal. It embraces many therapies, including herbs, massage, acupuncture, exercise, and nutritional counseling.
Naturopathy was brought to the United States from Germany in the 1800s, but some of its treatments are centuries old. Today, it combines traditional treatments with modern science.
How Does It Work?
The goal of naturopathic medicine is to treat the whole person — that means mind, body, and spirit. It also aims to heal the root causes of an illness — not just stop the symptoms.
We will spend 1 to 2 hours asking questions about your health history, stress levels, and lifestyle habits. We may also order lab tests.
A thorough case history is taken. This will usually include details of your health history from birth and that of your family. Information about your diet, your lifestyle and more detailed topics may be requested, and you will be asked about all aspects of the problem that is currently concerning you.
Tests may be advised. A recovery plan will then be discussed and a plan laid out for you. You will generally be given sufficient time to ask questions and discuss your options. These can be further considered in subsequent consultations
